Ramcharger Is Back Again: What the Name Means Now

June 9th, 2026 by

The Ramcharger name is back in the news, and it means something different this time. If you have followed our Ram coverage before, you may remember earlier discussion of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger pickup, then the update that the range-extended pickup would move forward under the Ram 1500 REV name.

This is another status update. The newest Ramcharger news points to a future full-size Ram SUV, not the same pickup that was previously known as the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and not the original all-electric Ram 1500 REV plan.

The Quick Answer: Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV Are Separate Stories Now

Ramcharger now appears to be headed back toward SUV territory. The current Ram 1500 REV, meanwhile, is the range-extended electric pickup that had previously been discussed under the Ramcharger name.

That distinction matters because older articles, including our own previous coverage, may use ā€œRamchargerā€ to describe the range-extended Ram 1500 pickup. Newer information points in a different direction: the pickup is now the Ram 1500 REV, while Ramcharger is once again being used for a future SUV.

For the pickup side of the story, see our current Ram 1500 REV overview.

Why the Ramcharger Name Sounds Familiar

Ramcharger is not a new name. It has roots as a Dodge truck-based SUV nameplate, which is one reason the latest news feels more natural than it might first appear. For longtime truck and SUV fans, Ramcharger already carries a connection to rugged utility, truck hardware, and a more traditional SUV shape.

That history is also why the name’s latest direction is important. The earlier modern Ramcharger pickup was part of Ram’s electrified truck plan. The newly reported Ramcharger is expected to be a full-size SUV, bringing the name closer to its original SUV identity.

How the Ram 1500 REV Entered the Story

2026 RAM 1500 REV

Ram’s recent electric-truck story began with the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept, a dramatic all-electric concept pickup shown in 2023. That concept previewed Ram’s battery-electric truck ambitions and helped introduce shoppers to the REV name.

The Ram 1500 REV then became the name tied to Ram’s planned all-electric pickup. At that point, REV was the battery-electric truck story, while Ramcharger had not yet returned as the range-extended pickup name.

Where the Ram 1500 Ramcharger Fit In

Later, Ram introduced the Ram 1500 Ramcharger as a different kind of electrified truck. It was not a normal gas truck, and it was not a pure battery-electric truck. Instead, it was a range-extended electric pickup that used electric drive motors, with a gas engine acting as an onboard generator.

That setup made the Ramcharger pickup a separate idea from the original all-electric Ram 1500 REV plan. It was aimed at drivers who liked the idea of electric driving but still wanted more confidence for longer trips, towing, hauling, and everyday truck use.

Around Allentown, that kind of thinking is easy to understand. A driver who commutes on Route 22 during the week, heads out toward I-78 for work, or needs truck capability for weekend projects may care as much about flexibility as electric range.

Then the Names Changed

The confusing part came later. Ram discontinued development of the original battery-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup and shifted focus to the range-extended truck. The truck that had been called Ramcharger then took over the Ram 1500 REV name.

That is why the current Ram 1500 REV page may look familiar to shoppers who remember the Ramcharger pickup. The vehicle concept did not disappear in the same way the battery-electric REV plan did. Instead, the range-extended pickup became the current REV story.

So What Is the New Ramcharger?

The newest Ramcharger news points to a future full-size Ram SUV. That makes it different from both earlier modern pickup stories: the canceled all-electric Ram 1500 REV plan and the range-extended pickup now carrying the Ram 1500 REV name.

The cleanest way to understand the current difference, as of our June 2026 publish date, is this:

  • Current Ram 1500 REV direction: the range-extended pickup that previously used the Ramcharger name.
  • New Ramcharger: a future full-size Ram SUV reported as part of Ram’s upcoming product plan.

Why Older Ramcharger Articles Can Be Confusing

Older coverage may still be accurate for the moment it was written, but the name has moved. That is the key issue. A 2023 or 2024 article may use Ramcharger to describe the range-extended pickup. A newer update may use Ram 1500 REV for that same range-extended pickup. The latest Ramcharger news points to a separate SUV.

For shoppers, the best approach is to read the most recent name and vehicle context together. ā€œRamchargerā€ in an older pickup article and ā€œRamchargerā€ in the newest SUV news do not refer to the same current product direction.
